What is an affirmation?

Let’s look at an example scenario. Your dream is to be a great, successful, writer. However whenever you think about trying to write anything you also think you can’t because you have a million and one other things you should do, or you don’t believe your writing is very good anyway, or you have no good ideas, or [insert other excuses].

In other words, you are having unhelpful or negative thoughts.

Your brain doesn’t know the difference between what’s real and what you believe. If you believe the negative then that’s what you will experience and you will continue to have negative thoughts.

Affirmations on the other hand are statements that are loaded with positive words. The more you say them, the more you start to believe them. In fact you can build new positive neural pathways just by repeating affirmations daily.

They can eventually help to boost your self-esteem and encourage and motivate you to do the things you want to do, or be who you want to be.
